Scratch is a computer programming website that is widely used to teach kids coding. It's always such an honor to get the chance to meet someone who has created something so influencial.
Today I had the opportunity to meet Mitch Resnick, the creator of Scratch. I was first exposed to Scratch in 2016 when I was asked to help coordinate a computer science program for teens. I had only taken one computer science class thus far in my college career, and I was eager to learn as much as I could.
A few years later, in January of 2019, I found myself working at a STEM education company where I began teaching Scratch in afterschool enrichment classes.
Fast forward six months, and I am working in the same building where Scratch was created. Who would have thought that learning a simple programming language for a volunteer gig in college would open up so many doors in the future.
As they say, “It is better to be prepared for an opportunity and not have one than to have an opportunity and not be prepared.”
