Alex Banayan, experienced author and keynote speaker, shared 9 essential public speaking tips during his Third Door Mentor sessions. For more detailed advice on how to become an exceptional speaker, go to this post.
When you speak your truth, you will never please everyone. Focus on the people who resonate with what you are saying.
You need permission to engage with the audience. Don't expect to ask a question and have people immediately respond. First, make a connection with the audience.
Engage a digital audience by telling a story that gets them hooked and then bring them along for the ride.
Connect with the staging crew and staff before your speech if you can.
Prepare 10 times more than you think you need to.
What you are going to say next should never be in question. Know your speech so well that someone could put a gun to your head and you would still be able to recite your speech.
Clear your mind before your speech with exercise, meditation, or whatever works for you.
Don't use notes. If you are looking down, there is a break in the connection with the audience.
Talk to the audience before your speech. Be present and read the room by interacting with attendees.
